Debbie Nogueras, PhD, ARNP, director of marketing and development for Barry University’s School of Nursing, has been named chair of the Children’s Services Committee of the State of Florida’s Parent Teacher Association Education Commission.

Nogueras has had a career that has gone from the bedside to the boardroom. Prior to coming to Barry University in 1999, she worked in the acute care setting as a rehabilitation nurse and the community as both a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner, providing health care to adults and children both in the private sector and free healthcare center. During her career as a faculty member and administrator at Barry University, she has embodied the community service mission, which has taken on the direction of child advocacy. Her services include: school-based health as a volunteer school nurse with the Miami-Dade County Public Health Department; leader at the local and county levels of PTA; consultant to the Heiken Children’s Vision Fund and the Youth Ethics Initiative, Inc. Currently she is an appointee by the governor to the Children’s Trust Board of Directors in Miami-Dade County, an oversite board that approves the expenditure of $65 million per year in public tax dollars on children’s issues in the county.
